Hi! I’m Shelly!

My specialties include providing support for maternal mental health and guiding High School students through life transitions. I often integrate my personal experiences into my therapeutic approach. I offer my clients a level of empathy and support that I know can make a meaningful impact. My approach for therapy is grounded in empathy, understanding, and a deep appreciation for each person’s unique journey.

I also specialize in working with individuals dealing with depression, anxiety, and stress. Whether it's the stress of starting a new job, navigating the difficulties of challenging family dynamics, or coping with the responsibilities of raising children, I am here to provide support and guidance. Life's transitions can often be overwhelming, and I can help you develop effective coping strategies to manage anxiety and help you move forward with resilience.

My own experience with motherhood has profoundly influenced my therapeutic techniques. This deeply personal encounter allows me to provide compassionate support to women during pivotal stages of pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum. I offer a safe, nurturing environment where healing and growth can flourish.

Before joining Awaken Counseling, I worked in a major hospital, where my primary focus was supporting parents of children with traumatic brain injuries (TBI) and spinal cord injuries (SCI). This experience taught me to handle high-stress situations, offer compassionate care, and create personalized support plans for families facing tough medical challenges. This background also gives me a unique perspective that is especially helpful for clients who work in healthcare settings. I understand the pressures and emotional demands of the healthcare profession and can provide support and strategies to help healthcare workers manage stress, avoid burnout, and maintain their mental well-being.

I was born and raised in East Cobb and have first-hand knowledge of what being in High School in Cobb County can be like. Drawing from my personal experiences, I assist teenagers in handling academic pressures, exploring their identities, managing peer relationships, and navigating family dynamics.

About Me: I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over 16 years of experience. I received my Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work from The University of Georgia in 2006 and continued to earn my Masters Degree in Social Work in 2007. I was born and raised in East Cobb. I currently live in East Cobb with my husband, two daughters, and two goldendoodles.
