Do You Dread Valentine’s Day?
For some people, Valentine’s Day is a day of love and excitement. For others, Valentine’s Day can be hard and can bring up feelings of sadness, loneliness, or loss.
If you aren’t in love with the idea of Valentine’s Day, here are three practical tips for dealing with Valentine’s Day:
Find a way to celebrate with friends. Get a group of friends together and go to dinner, go bowling, or watch a movie together. Do something fun and make some memories with the special people in your life.
Do something relaxing or something you enjoy. Don’t have anyone to spend the day with? Or do you prefer doing something alone? Find something that you enjoy doing like getting your hair done, getting a massage, or taking a long walk and prioritize doing that thing for yourself.
Treat it like a normal day. If you don’t feel like doing anything special, then don’t! Give yourself permission to go about your day as usual and do your best to stick to your normal routine. Ignore the heart-shaped chocolates near the checkout line and treat it like any other day (unless you want to grab one of the boxes of heart shaped chocolates).
Valentine’s Day doesn’t have to be about being in love. Valentine’s Day can also be about showing love to our friends and family or showing love to ourselves by practicing good self-care.
