With over five years of experience as a school counselor, I have developed a nuanced understanding of the complex challenges facing today’s youth. Specializing in supporting children, teenagers, and young adults,  I am passionate about helping clients navigate issues such as anxiety, peer and family dynamics, grief, ADHD, OCD, divorce, life transitions, self-esteem, and more. I have advanced training in managing anxiety, grief, and ADHD, which enhances my ability to provide targeted and effective support for these specific challenges. My approach is characterized by empathy and patience, aiming to empower clients to develop effective coping skills and promote resilience.
In addition to traditional therapy, I offer school observation services to better understand a child’s emotional, social, and behavioral functioning in the classroom. With parent consent, I observe children in a non-intrusive, passive manner to assess how they interact with peers, handle classroom dynamics, and respond to various situations. These observations allow me to provide valuable insights and recommendations to support the child’s well-being and success both academically and socially.
My background in school counseling sets me apart in several ways. I have a deep understanding of the educational system, including school policies and the interplay between academic performance and mental health. This allows me to navigate school-related issues and advocate effectively within the educational context. My experience with diverse student populations allows me to address the unique needs of various backgrounds, while my collaboration with educators enables me to integrate therapeutic interventions with academic goals.
I bring advanced crisis intervention skills, developed through handling crises such as bullying or emotional distress in school settings. My knowledge of developmental milestones and early intervention strategies helps me tailor my approach to each child’s stage of development. Additionally, my understanding of school resources ensures that students and families are connected with the support they need.
In my practice, I employ a variety of evidence-based therapeutic techniques, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Solution-Focused Therapy, Person-Centered Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing. For younger children, I use Play-Based Therapy with games, books, and bibliotherapy to create engaging and effective sessions. I also focus on assertiveness training to help children better express their thoughts, feelings, and needs.
Working collaboratively with families is a cornerstone of my approach. I offer psychoeducation to parents, equip them with parenting skills, and develop strategies together to support the therapeutic work done in sessions. I believe working with parents and families of clients to ensure optimal support, maximize positive communication, and establish appropriate expectations is essential.
I am thrilled to be a part of Awaken and look forward to connecting with your child, offering encouragement, and providing a listening ear with an open heart and mind.
